Leeds chiefs locked in battle with Sky Sports
Leeds and several other Championship sides have voiced their displeasure with the current broadcasting deal offered to second division clubs, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The owners and directors from up to 15 Championship clubs are said to have registered their dissatisfaction in a recent meeting, stating they would like Sky to reconsider the five-year broadcasting deal which is set to begin next year.
In this deal, EFL clubs would stand to receive around £3m a year plus extra payments for live appearances.
The latter payments are the ones which Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has taken exception to, as the Italian believes the Yorkshire club, who are the most televised side in the league, receive disproportionately low payments for the fixtures which are broadcast live.
Speaking last month, Radrizanni said:
It’s really not sustainable to stay in the Championship, the small money they generate from TV rights, because of the way they split it with 72 (EFL) clubs, maybe needs to be reconsidered.
The Whites have had a rocky relationship with Sky TV in the past, as former madcap owner Massimo Cellino famously attempted to stop the cameras from entering the stadium, shortly before their fixture against Derby County in 2016.
This particular dispute was due to a high level of fixture rearrangements as a result of being broadcast on Sky, and Cellino decided to take a stand.
Radrizzani looks to be taking a much more tame approach this time around, however, more talks are scheduled to take place later this week over the matter.
